MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa is an initiative that transforms deforestation alerts collected from different sources into verified, accurate, and contextualized data (2021-2025 period). Its objective is to validate and perfect forest alerts using high-resolution imagery. This effort is the result of collaborative work within the MapBiomas Per\u00fa network, where data generation is achieved thanks to the coordination of Conservaci\u00f3n Amaz\u00f3nica (ACCA) and the Instituto del Bien Com\u00fan (IBC), and in collaboration with academia and the MapBiomas Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa publica la p\u00e9rdida de bosque[1]<\/sup><\/a> MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa publishes forest loss (primarily in natural forest) detected by monitoring systems and validated with high-resolution satellite imagery. The published data are objective and technical; therefore, MapBiomas does not determine the legality, liabilities, or restrictions associated with said alerts. The evaluation of these aspects is the exclusive responsibility of the public or private institutions that use this information, thus MapBiomas is not responsible for the decisions or legal actions taken by third parties based on the data provided on this platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below are some clarifications regarding the scope and limitations of the alert data:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Alert Period: The operational phase aims to evaluate all deforestation alerts detected in Peru from January 2021 onwards, with an initial focus on the Amazon. The detection date is the date the provider generates the alert and does not necessarily indicate when the deforestation occurred. Deforestation detected in the first months of each year, for example, could have started in the last months of the previous year. Data for the current year are always partial and subject to change due to the time required for processing and publishing the alerts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Alert Area: During the polygon refinement stage, a generalization process is applied that may cause a variation (increase or decrease) in the final area. The minimum deforestation surface required for review and refinement on the MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa Platform is 1 hectare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa uses deforestation indicators from the following systems: GEOBOSQUES and MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa uses and consumes the territorial category database of government agencies and civil society (IBC, INEI, ANA, MINCUL, SERNANP, SERFOR, MINAM, others). It is important to highlight that these databases may be subject to updates or may be incomplete<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Legality, liability, and\/or restrictions regarding validated deforestation alerts published on the platform: MapBiomas does not perform this type of evaluation. It is the responsibility of users (environmental agencies, financial institutions, etc.) to obtain this information from the relevant authorities or their clients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Pending alerts: The objective is to review all alerts greater than or equal to 1 ha generated by the main systems; however, some alerts may have pending validation for various reasons (for example, lack of imagery due to cloud cover, excess alerts in months with a higher amount of deforestation, etc.). The amount of pending alerts can vary over time, as they are continuously produced and published.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Omissions: MapBiomas does not generate its own alerts and relies on the quality of the systems operating in Peruvian territory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. The MapBiomas Alerta Per\u00fa initiative is constantly being improved and updated so that the information qualifying the alerts (territorial categories) is as updated and complete as possible. The source, month, and year in which these databases were consulted are always made available, so that users, when necessary, can use the most up-to-date official information in their analyses and decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
